Honeywell International said Wednesday it will cut another 1,500 jobs in the second half as it continues to cut costs. The electronics and aerospace group announced second-quarter earnings of US$459 million, a ninefold increase from a year ago, thanks to increased defense sales. The earnings were in line with Wall Street analysts' expectations, but the shares were down after analysts expressed concern over the lack of guidance for the coming months. Later, chairman and chief executive David Cote said during a teleconference that the company now expects to report full-year earnings slightly below the First Call/Thompson Financial estimate of US$2.34 per share. Cote said the 2002 result would be "depending on the nature of the recovery."

The High Court yesterday overturned a Taipei District Court decision to release Taiwan People’s Party Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) and sent the case back to the lower court.
