Sales of computer-chip making equipment declined for a 13th straight month in March, indicating chipmakers curbed spending last year as demand for semiconductors slumped, an industry group said. Global sales slid 57 percent to US$1.69 billion in March from a year ago, the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan said, eroding revenue at chip-equipment makers such as Applied Materials Inc, ASML Holding NV and Tokyo Electron Ltd. Orders, which turn into sales in about six months, have begun rising as chipmakers purchase more machines to prepare for a recovery in demand.
