President Eduardo Duhalde turned up the pressure on lawmakers Thursday, urging them to quickly pass a package of financial reforms sought by the International Monetary Fund in exchange for aid. Duhalde's warning came as legislators met in a special session to debate one of two key bills sought by the IMF, convening on a day of renewed street protests in the capital and around the country. Presidential spokesman Eduardo Amadeo said Duhalde warned political leaders that swift legislative action was needed to enact spending cuts and revise a financial crimes law that have been bogged down by political bickering. "His warning was a strong one," Amadeo said, adding the president complained of slow progress: "At this pace, I'm not interested.''
