Online banking in Singapore has become more popular than shopping over the Internet, a research company's report said on yesterday. A new survey by ACNielsen Consult found regular Internet users who banked online last year outnumbered those who shopped over the Internet by more than 100,000, with bill payments being the most popular transaction. "The banks have been hugely successful in positioning online banking as being both secure and convenient for Internet users," said senior analyst Richard Sandlant with the Australian Internet research firm. Consumer concerns over security appeared to be diminishing with under 12 per cent of those queried last year maintaining they were averse to online banking, down from 30 per cent in 1999.
