Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co plans to add about 4,000 new employees, or 3.2 percent, to its work force, including about 2,500 jobs at its new US plant, a company spokesman said yesterday. The increase would boost Nissan's work force to 129,000 this fiscal year, as the company raises production and forges ahead in new technologies, the Nissan spokesman said on condition of anonymity. Japan's current fiscal year began April 1. It would be the first time the Japanese carmaker has added workers since Brazilian-born Carlos Ghosn arrived from Renault SA of France in late 1999 to head then-ailing Nissan. Among the new hires will be about 1,000 people who will focus on new technologies such as fuel-cell cars, the spokesman said. Nissan will also employ at least 2,500 assembly line and administrative workers at a new plant near Canton, Mississippi plant, the spokesman said.
