A five-year-old British boy was handed an invoice for a “Childs Party No Show Fee” and threatened with court action after missing his schoolmate’s birthday party.
Torpoint Nursery and Infant School in southern England said that one of their teachers had been asked to pass an envelope from the birthday boy’s mother to Alex Nash as he returned from the Christmas holiday.
Inside, his father, Derek Nash, found a demand for £15.95 (US$24), British media reported.
The invoice appeared as if it came from Plymouth Ski Slope, the venue of the “slide-and-ride” party that included three toboggan rides, a hot meal, ice cream, gelatin dessert and balloons.
“It was a proper invoice with full official details and even her bank details on it,” Nash, 45, told reporters.
Having not yet paid the bill, the family is now threatened with action in small claims court.
“The money isn’t the issue; it’s the way she went about trying to get the money from me,” the elder Nash said.
Invoicer Julie Lawrence stood by her demand in a statement issued to the press.
“All details were on the party invite. They had every detail needed to contact me,” she said.
Nash said he had lost Lawrence’s contact details.
The venue manager said they would never issue such invoices and that their address had been “fraudulently” added to the bill.
“Apart from the fact they had the party here, we have nothing else to do with it,” Louisa Duggan said.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder and aggravated sexual abuse in Florida in the death of his 18-year-old stepsister on a Carnival Cruise ship, the US Department of Justice said on Monday. Timothy Hudson was initially charged in February and subsequently indicted on March 10, but the breadth of the case was not known until a seal was lifted on Friday last week, weeks after US District Judge Beth Bloom in Miami said that he would be prosecuted as an adult at the request of the government. Anna Kepner had been traveling on the Carnival Horizon ship in November last
