Aviation police arrested a Taiwan citizen who was allegedly trying to smuggle heroin from Macau on Wednesday. Officials seized 360g of the drug concealed in the bottom of the man's sneakers. The bust marked the first time that any Taiwanese drug trafficker was found to have tried to smuggle heroin by concealing it in his shoes. Acting on a tip-off from the Coast Guard Administration, aviation police apprehended the man, identified as Chen Yuan-chun (陳淵俊), 33, when he arrived at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport around 10pm Wednesday. Police believe Chen was not the first person to have brought the drug in their shoes. According to investigators, gangs are hiring young people from poor families who have no criminal records to be traffickers during the summer vacation.
