More than 20 people have applied for admission to Academia Sinica's newly established international graduate school, including some from overseas, Academia Sinica's Vice President Ovid Tzeng (曾志朗) said yesterday. The school will have two sections -- biochemistry and atomic science. Tzeng said the biochemistry section has attracted applications from some 20 students, with half of those coming from other countries, including France, India, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations. The three students who have applied for admission to the atomic science section are all from abroad. With the goal of attracting the best graduate students from around the globe, the new school hopes to attract at least 400 students in five years, Tzeng said. He added that names of the students who have been accepted will be released after a screening meeting next week.
