Taiwanese products' share of the US market last year was down over the previous year's level of 3.33 percent, and the nation placed behind South Korea in this category for the first time, according to the bureau.
The bureau officials said that, after the US economy began a fast decline in last year, US imports also dropped sharply.
In the first quarter of the year, the US market share of Taiwanese goods continued to slide down to 2.78 percent, ranking the nation eighth overall for the first three months of this year.

Taiwan pineapples are to be exported to the US for the first time later this year, after the US yesterday announced importation requirements, the Ministry of Agriculture said today. The US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service yesterday published a draft of requirements to import Taiwanese pineapples, with a 62-day comment period, the ministry said in a news release. The US maintains strict requirements for imported fresh fruit, it said.
