The company said that by the end of the year it will be making more than 10,000 eight-inch silicon wafers per month that use a 0.13 micron technology, the most advanced in the world, to produce chips that are smaller and cost less, the report said, citing UMC Chief Executive Officer John Hsuan (宣明智). Most of the customers design chips for telecommunications equipment such as Xilinx Inc and computer graphics like Trident Microsystems Inc, the report said, citing Hsuan.
