The Central Weather Administration has issued a heat alert for southeastern Taiwan, warning of temperatures as high as 36°C today, while alerting some coastal areas of strong winds later in the day.
Kaohsiung’s Neimen District (內門) and Pingtung County’s Neipu Township (內埔) are under an orange heat alert, which warns of temperatures as high as 36°C for three consecutive days, the CWA said, citing southwest winds.
The heat would also extend to Tainan’s Nansi (楠西) and Yujing (玉井) districts, as well as Pingtung’s Gaoshu (高樹), Yanpu (鹽埔) and Majia (瑪家) townships, it said, forecasting highs of up to 36°C in those areas today.

Temperatures in Taitung County’s Taimali Township (太麻里) are also expected to hit 36°C today, due to Foehn winds, which are dry downslope winds in the lee of a mountain range, the agency said.
Daytime highs in other parts of Taiwan are to range between 29°C and 33°C, with partly cloudy to sunny skies and possible brief afternoon thunderstorms in the Taipei area, northeastern Taiwan and mountainous regions, it said.
A weather front moving in from the northwest is expected to bring sporadic showers to northern Taiwan late tonight into early tomorrow, the CWA said.
The weather agency also issued a warning for strong winds in coastal areas of New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County in the north, as well as on the southern tip of Taiwan, in Taitung County and on Orchid Island (Lanyu, 蘭嶼) and Green Island (綠島) off the southeastern coast.
The areas can expect winds of up to 38.88kph, with gusts of 62kph, from this afternoon into tomorrow afternoon, the warning said.

The Taipei District Court sentenced babysitters Liu Tsai-hsuan (劉彩萱) and Liu Jou-lin (劉若琳) to life and 18 years in prison respectively today for causing the death of a one-year-old boy in December 2023.
