Most of Taiwan is to experience cold weather at the beginning of the Lunar New Year holiday next week, as a strong cold air mass arrives in Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today.
Temperatures are to turn colder on Monday next week and remain low through Wednesday, with daytime highs in northern Taiwan falling to 13°C to 15°C and lows dipping to 9°C, the CWA said.

Daytime highs elsewhere during that period in Taiwan are to hit 17°C to 19°C in central Taiwan, 15°C to 18°C in eastern Taiwan and 20°C to 22°C in southern Taiwan, while lows are to reach 12°C to 13°C, the CWA said.
Localized showers may also occur in the north and east and in mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan, the CWA said.
The cold would start to relent on Thursday, although it would remain chilly early in the morning and at night, the agency said.
Prior to then, the CWA said that warm days and chilly nights across Taiwan from tomorrow to Sunday, with highs expected to reach 21°C to 24°C, and lows dropping to 13°C to 15°C in northern and central Taiwan and 16°C to 18°C in the south and east.
On Friday, seasonal northeasterly winds are expected to strengthen and bring moisture to the nation.
Northern and eastern Taiwan, as well as mountainous regions in central and southern Taiwan, may see sporadic showers, while other areas would be cloudy, the CWA said.
The CWA also said snow may be seen on mountains in northern and central Taiwan that are higher than 3,000m tomorrow and on Monday and Tuesday.
