Two women died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Taoyuan on Friday morning, with one other receiving treatment.
Of the seven people living in the two-story unit in Gueishan District (龜山), the two deceased were the only ones living on the lower floor, firefighters said.
After discovering the three women were not feeling well, the other residents called 119 just after 5am, they said.

Six ambulances and 16 emergency responders were dispatched, finding two of the women — surnamed Chen (陳), 21, and Kuo (郭), 19, — unresponsive, and a 21-year-old woman surnamed Cheng (鄭) unconscious, they said.
The three were taken to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for treatment, but doctors were unable to revive Chen and Kou, they added.
Firefighters said they detected high carbon monoxide levels in the apartment.
The water boiler on the upper story had not shut off properly, causing the one downstairs to stay lit overnight, they said.
Due to incomplete combustion, the heater filled the unit with carbon monoxide, they added.
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 7pm yesterday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. The first tropical storm of the year in the western North Pacific, Wutip (蝴蝶), has formed over the South China Sea and is expected to move toward Hainan Island off southern China, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today. The agency said a tropical depression over waters near the Paracel and Zhongsha islands strengthened into a tropical storm this morning.
