A crowd of more than 200 Pokemon Go players late on Saturday surrounded the Jhongsing Police Station in Nantou County, alarming police officers who later handed out traffic tickets, sources said.
At about 9pm, Pokemon Go players gathered at a kindergarten across the police station to catch virtual creatures and obtain in-game supplies, when a rare Pokemon, known as Venusaur, materialized in front of the station, the sources said.
The gamers quickly moved to the sidewalk near the station to catch the virtual creature, while some stood on the road, they said, adding that the players remained in the vicinity until the supply of creatures was exhausted.
There were multiple cases of illegal parking and underspeed driving that resulted in four tickets being issued to offenders, the station said.
One officer told reporters that in addition to young players, one septuagenarian was spotted taking part in the game. In related news, the station said that it received a call from a local convenience store clerk on Sunday morning who said that a teenage girl was wandering aimlessly in the shop.
The girl told officers that her boyfriend drove her to the area to play Pokemon Go, but following an argument, he got on his scooter and rode home alone, leaving her stranded, the station said.
The officers called the girl’s parents to pick her up, the station said.

ALIGNED THINKING: Taiwan and Japan have a mutual interest in trade, culture and engineering, and can work together for stability, Cho Jung-tai said Taiwan and Japan are two like-minded countries willing to work together to form a “safety barrier” in the Indo-Pacific region, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) yesterday said at the opening ceremony of the 35th Taiwan-Japan Modern Engineering and Technology Symposium in Taipei. Taiwan and Japan are close geographically and closer emotionally, he added. Citing the overflowing of a barrier lake in the Mataian River (馬太鞍溪) in September, Cho said the submersible water level sensors given by Japan during the disaster helped Taiwan monitor the lake’s water levels more accurately. Japan also provided a lot of vaccines early in the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic,
