Ties to the Wild Lily Student Movement (野百合學運) in 1990 were yesterday played up by Social Democratic Party convener Fan Yun (范雲).
“Only some of the Wild Lily movement’s goals have achieved fruition through full popular legislative elections — there are still many unfinished aspirations for political and economic reform, including the deepening of democracy, further congressional reform, social justice and income inequality,” said Fan, who is a legislative candidate for Taipei’s Daan District (大安).
“The Daan District is a crucial battlefront in the push for congressional reform and should not be considered ‘locked’ to any person or party,” she said.
Fan made her remarks at a press conference which saw her presented with lilies by former Democratic Progressive Party spokesperson Hsu Chia-ching (徐佳青).
“The Wild Lily generation has gone to the next level instead of being domesticated,” Hsu said, in a speech that accused Fan’s opponent Chiang Nai-shin (蔣乃辛) of being a “pawn” of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) during his time in the legislature.
Both Fan and Hsu participated in the movement.

Taiwan-Japan Travel Passes are available for use on public transit networks in the two countries, Taoyuan Metro Corp said yesterday, adding that discounts of up to 7 percent are available. A new tropical storm formed late yesterday near Guam and is to approach closest to Taiwan on Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. Tropical Storm Pulasan became the 14th named storm of the year at 9:25pm yesterday, the agency said. As of 8am today, it was near Guam traveling northwest at 21kph, it said.
