Three passengers on board the bus, including Taiwanese tour guide Fang Li-yu (方立宇), 47, and two Chinese tourists, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Puli Christian Hospital.
The driver and the passenger in the car — both female — were also injured and sent to the Show Chwan Hospital, the highway agency said.
The sports car was severely damaged in the accident, it added.
The Tourism Bureau confirmed that the bus passengers were tourism operators from China’s Zhengjiang Province who came to Taiwan as independent travelers to scout potential destinations for Chinese tourists.
Fang said that there were eight sports cars driving on the highway at the time of the accident, including the car that hit the tour bus.
The highway has four lanes.
He said that the accident might have been due to the driver being unfamiliar with road conditions and added that the driver did not appear to slow down when making the turn.
