The Ministry of National Defense yesterday said it is aware that Chinese live-fire military drills are to begin today, the last day of Taiwan’s most important annual war games, the Han Kuang series of military exercises.
The exercise is part of China’s annual military training operations, ministry spokesman Major General David Lo (羅紹和) said, in response to a notice about the upcoming military exercises posted on the Web site of China’s Maritime Safety Administration, warning that ships are prohibited from entering the area designated for the drill.
According to the notice, the drill will be held from 3pm to 5pm today and tomorrow.
The ground forces in China’s southeastern province of Fujian are to conduct regular artillery firings at an area about 14 nautical miles (26km) off Weitou, Luo said.
The Taiwanese military “is fully aware of” China’s upcoming live-fire exercise, he added.

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Friday laid out the Cabinet’s updated policy agenda and recapped the government’s achievements ahead of the one-year anniversary of President William Lai’s (賴清德) inauguration.
