The brother of the first person to die from injuries received in a fire at a New Taipei City water park remains in stable condition after being transferred to Taipei Veterans General Hospital on Monday night, his attending physician said yesterday.
Ma Hsu (馬旭), director of the hospital’s Department of Plastic Surgery, said the 12-year-old brother of the deceased Lee Pei-yun (李珮筠) sustained burns to 90 percent of his body, but has remained in stable condition since being sent to the hospital.
A full battery of tests covering his red blood cell and albumin levels, kidney functions, peripheral blood-flow rates and whether his lungs are infected was to be conducted later yesterday to more precisely assess his condition, Ma said.

Chu Li (朱俐), 18, who also received serious burns over 90 percent of her body, is also in stable condition, the doctor said.
Lee and her brother were among the nearly 500 people who were injured when colored cornstarch powder apparently burst into flames at a “Color Play Asia” party on Saturday night at Formosa Fun Coast (八仙海岸), a water park in New Taipei City’s Bali District (八里).
Lee Pei-yun, 20, was the first of the injured to die, passing away on Monday morning after her family agreed to take her off life support equipment.
Her distraught mother then appealed for help to save the life of her son.
He was transferred from Cathay General Hospital to Taipei Veterans General Hospital.
At present, 37 burn victims are being treated at the hospital, with 23 on ventilators, five with burns to 90 percent of their bodies and six with burns to 80 percent of their bodies.
New Taipei City Government information showed 498 people were injured in the fire, and as of Monday night, 393 people remained hospitalized and 221 were being treated in intensive care.
