China Airlines (CAL) has once again won the International Trophy at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, with a float titled “Taiwan Dreams Rising.”
The colorful float, which was 16.7m long, 5.5m wide and 10.6m high, featured seven hot air balloons rising over Yushan, Alishan and Taipei 101. It was decorated with orchids, irises, roses and chrysanthemums.
The victory in the 125th Rose Parade marked the 23rd year and the ninth consecutive year in which the airline has won the award since it began participating in the parade in 1987, CAL Los Angeles branch president Yu Chih (俞智) said.

Lin Hsin-jen (林信任), director of the Tourism Bureau’s Los Angeles office, said the government uses the annual parade to showcase Taiwan’s tourist attractions and woo more foreign visitors.
About 100 floats and bands took part in this year’s parade, which covered a 9km route, including the AIDS Healthcare Foundation float, which featured a same-sex marriage ceremony.
Aubrey Loots and Danny Leclair exchanged vows before the Reverend Alfreda Lanoix toward the end of the two-hour parade festivities.
The Pasadena Tournament of Roses, which puts on the parade, said the float represented this year’s parade theme, “Dreams Come True.”
