National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) students will have a chance to learn writing from Nobel laureate Guan Moye (管謨業), starting in February, the university said.
The Chinese author, better known by the pen name Mo Yan (莫言), has accepted the position of endowed chair in a program at the school, which established the first writing center in the world dedicated to Chinese language, the university said.
He also holds similar endowed chairs at Beijing Normal University and Shandong University.
Mo, who visited Taiwan last month to promote his new book, Grand Ceremony, has turned down a flood of international teaching invitations since he won the Noble Prize in Literature last year, the university said.
The writer lived in Taipei for month in 1998 and has participated in exchanges with local writers during his past six visits.
He said he is looking forward to observing the differences between young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait as they have been exposed to two types of society and culture, said National Taiwan Normal University president Chang Kuo-en (張國恩), who presented the certificate of employment to the writer in Beijing earlier this year.
Mo will also deliver public lectures starting next year, the university said, adding that it has been working to improve its students’ writing.
Last year, the university offered Chinese-born French Noble laureate Gao Xingjian (高行健) an endowed chair position for two weeks.
