Night markets, a fireworks show in Dadaocheng (大稻埕) and the Bei-tou Library are among the most frequently searched items on Taipei’s travel Web site, a study of the site (http://taipeitravel.net) has shown.
A study of the most frequently searched keywords between January last year and last month found that “night market” was the most searched-for term, accounting for 23.8 percent of all keywords.
The annual firework show in Dadaocheng, the Beitou Library, the National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and the city’s public bicycle rental program, Youbike, were also popular search terms, the study showed.
A closer look at the Web site found that the most popular city attractions on the site were the hot springs in Beitou, Dadaocheng wharf, the Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence, Yangmingshan National Park and the National Palace Museum.
The most frequently searched-for food items in the city were beef noodles, pineapple cakes and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings, 小籠包).
Department of Information and Tourism Commissioner Chao Hsin-ping (趙心屏) said the search results reflected the variety of the city’s tourist attractions and the city government’s effort to promote local attractions, such as the cultural and historical Dadaocheng area in Datung District (大同), and the hot springs in Beitou.
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 7pm yesterday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. The first tropical storm of the year in the western North Pacific, Wutip (蝴蝶), has formed over the South China Sea and is expected to move toward Hainan Island off southern China, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today. The agency said a tropical depression over waters near the Paracel and Zhongsha islands strengthened into a tropical storm this morning. The storm had maximum sustained winds near its center of 64.8kph, with peak gusts reaching 90kph, it said.
