Taipei will distribute 26,000 national flags for free as part of celebrations for Double Ten National Day on Monday, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) said yesterday, inviting residents to claim a flag and hang it in front of their home to celebrate the nation’s birthday.
The flags are available at the entrance of Taipei World Design Expo at Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and at celebration venues on Monday.
“The national flag is a symbol of our country, and we encourage Taipei residents to join us and express their love for the country by hanging the national flag at their door,” Hau told a press conference at Taipei City Hall.
A series of activities will be held in the city to mark Double Ten Day, including a flag-raising ceremony and jogging event to be held from 7:30am to 9am in front of Taipei City Hall.
The Taipei Hakka Culture Park will formally open to the public on Monday and the Taipei Dadaocheng Firework Festival will be held at the Dadaocheng wharf beginning at 3pm.

Chao Hsin-ping (趙心屏), commissioner of the city’s Department of Information and Tourism, said the firework festival would feature performances and activities, including a puppet show and exhibition of glove puppetry and a showcase of scripts from the Li Tien-lu (李天祿) Hand Puppet Foundation.
The Xiahai Temple of the City God will also have a booth at the wharf, where visitors can pray to the gods at a makeshift altar.
The fireworks will begin at 8:30pm, and the 20-minute show will be the only large-scale firework show on Double Ten Day in northern Taiwan, Chao said.
