Taiwan is making a showing at Festival Pohoda, a four-day open-air multi-cultural event in Slovakia, diplomatic sources said.
For the first time, Taiwan’s representative office was asked by the organizers to plan several artistic and cultural activities for the festival, which opened on Thursday in Trencin. Taiwan was the only country given an exclusive area at the festival to promote its cultural development.
The Taipei Representative Office is screening videos that introduce some Taiwanese performing arts groups.
Member of Parliament Ivan Stefanec, chairman of the Slovak-Taiwanese Parliamentary Friendship Group, visited the activities, sources said.
Representative David Lee (李南陽) said his office was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the festival and give people a better understanding of Taiwan.
He said his office would continue to promote Taiwanese culture by assisting arts groups that want to perform in Slovakia.
The annual festival started in 1997 with eight performaing groups and 2,000 visitors. The festival has since become one of the largest cultural events in central and eastern Europe, attracting more than 30,000 people last year.
