A man who claimed to be a lawmaker's assistant was released on bail last week after being arrested for entering the country on a fake passport.
Yan Jui-yang (
Yan, who had been accused of evading NT$10 million (US$300,000) in taxes and barred from leaving the country, managed to leave Taiwan using a special legislative pass.
The Aviation Police Office (APO) said in a press statement yesterday that police discovered that Yan left the country on Sept. 13 using the legislative document.
The APO said Yan applied for a temporary airport pass using an official legislative document and the airport gave him permission to enter restricted areas after reviewing the document.
It said Yan had evaded a customs check and boarded the flight.
The APO said it has launched an investigation into the incident.
The statement said Yan told police he applied for the temporary pass in the company of Wei Yao-sheng (魏曜笙), who had also claimed to be one of Fu's assistants.
Yan told police he bought the fake Malaysian passport from Wei.
Wei has also been barred from leaving the country because of his alleged involvement in other crimes. Wei is now in the custody of Shilin prosecutors.
Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office released Yan on NT$200,000 bail last Thursday.
PFP Legislator Fu Kun-chi (
Fu said he had already fired Lin because Lin was suspected of embezzling money from his legislative office.
The Legislative Yuan's human resource department issued Lin with an assistant's ID for Yan because Lin forged Fu's signature on the application document in August, while Fu was abroad, the legislator said.
Fu said the human resource department had invalidated the ID on Oct. 1. He also said that he did not know either Yan or Wei.

Completing the NT$247.2 billion (US$7.69 billion) arms deal for 66 jets would make Taiwan the third nation in the world to receive factory-fresh advanced fighter jets of the same make and model, following Bahrain and Slovakia, the official said on condition of anonymity.
