Beginning on Saturday, Taipei's Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will hold a month-long exhibition in Malaysia featuring the teachings of Sun Yat-sen (
Cheng Nai-wen (
He said the works to be displayed at the exhibition will come from the memorial hall collections, including 42 paintings and calligraphic works by renowned contemporary artists in Taiwan.
Also included will be paintings by artist Pai Tsung-jen (
Cheng and the Penang Chinese Philomathic Society leaders will preside over the opening of the exhibition on Saturday.
The Penang Philomathic Society was founded by Sun in 1908 and last year the organization's premises in Malyasia were transformed into the Sun Yat-sen Museum.
Sun stayed in Penang for six years to preach revolutionary ideas and draw on the financial support of the area's Chinese community. He and his supporters used Penang as a base to plan the 1911 Canton Uprising in an attempt to overthrow the Manchu government after nine failed uprising attempts.
Although the 1911 uprising also failed, it set in motion the Oct. 10 revolution that toppled the Manchu government the same year.

The Taipei District Court sentenced babysitters Liu Tsai-hsuan (劉彩萱) and Liu Jou-lin (劉若琳) to life and 18 years in prison respectively today for causing the death of a one-year-old boy in December 2023. Hong Kong singer Eason Chan’s (陳奕迅) concerts in Kaohsiung this weekend have been postponed after he was diagnosed with Covid-19 this morning, the organizer said today.
