This year's dragon boat races being held in Taipei, Changhua and Pingtung counties from this weekend will also feature a wealth of activities related to the Dragon Boat Festival holidays.

The Taipei County Council, which has organized the northern race for the past 15 years, said yesterday that 64 teams had registered to participate in this year's event.

Expatriates from Thailand, Japan, New Zealand and Australia have also formed a team this year, the organizer said.
The winner will receive a prize of NT$300,000 (US$9,000).
In addition to the races, the council has arranged a series of events in celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Limited free beer will be distributed on Saturday at 6pm at Sindian St, while local performers and bands will present a live music show.
In central Taiwan, the race in Lukang Township (鹿港), Changhua County, is celebrating its 30th anniversary and teams from nearby counties and cities will join in the friendly rivalry next Tuesday, including teams from Taichung City and Taichung, Nantou and Yunlin counties.

Wang Hsieh-chao (王憲昭), mayor of Lukang Township, said that each visitor would be issued with a brochure listing all the tourist attractions and various celebrations being held in Lukang during the festival. The brochures will be available from convenience stores nationwide.
Free shuttle buses are available to transport visitors from Changhua Train Station to Lukang.
