"Hau said he, during his tenure as the head of the Environmental Protection Administration, had returned the remaining money from his special allowance fund. Well, the Ministry of Audit's latest statistics prove that he is lying," Hsieh said at a press conference yesterday.
"The Ministry of Audit said clearly that no government officials have done so to date. Obviously he is lying," Hsieh added.
In response, Hau's camp yesterday dismissed the accusations, insisting that Hau had returned the balance of his monthly special allowance to the government.

Hau chose to cash the half of the allowance that did not require receipts, and used most of the money to pay for red and white envelopes for weddings and funerals.
The other half of the fund, requiring receipts, was mostly used for rewarding staff or academics who had assisted with the administration's works, Chuang said.
