The launch of Taiwan's FORMOSAT-3 , scheduled for yesterday, was dependent on weather conditions, project leader Chen Wei-chun (陳維鈞) said on Thursday in Los Angeles. The only factor that could have delayed the lift-off at the Vandenberg air force base in California was an expected thunderstorm, Chen said, noting that forecasters indicated that a thunderstorm front was expected to hit California yesterday and stay until today. Since FORMOSAT-3 will be carried by a US Air Force-owned spaceship on its journey into orbit, only a command from the Vandenberg base for the project could have decided whether the launch would go ahead, Chen said.
FORMOSAT-3 was scheduled to be launched at 8:10am this morning, Taiwan time.

Residents have called on the Taipei City Government to reconsider its plan to demolish a four-decades-old pedestrian overpass near Daan Forest Park. The 42-year-old concrete and steel structure that serves as an elevated walkway over the intersection of Heping and Xinsheng roads is to be closed on Tuesday in preparation for demolition slated for completion by the end of the month. However, in recent days some local residents have been protesting the planned destruction of the intersection overpass that is rendered more poetically as “sky bridge” in Chinese. “This bridge carries the community’s collective memory,” said a man surnamed Chuang
