"Although the Assembly and Parade Law (集會遊行法) stipulates that a local county or city government is responsible for any assembly or parade taking place within its jurisdiction, the Ministry of the Interior will do its best to help the Taipei City Government," Su said in a question-and-session session at the Legislative Yuan yesterday.
Su said that the NPA, which falls under the MOI, had worked very well with Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) during the 319 shooting protest rally that was held last Saturday.
He said he believed that further cooperation between the central government and Taipei City would again help to ensure a peaceful rally this Saturday.
Although Su declared last week that he would attend the upcoming rally, he said yesterday that he had decided not to participate, as he would be monitoring traffic and security from the NPA's command center.
There was no sign yesterday that President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) plans to take part in the rally.
During the legislative session yesterday, People First Party Leegislator Diane Lee (李慶安) asked NPA Director-General Shieh Ing-dan (謝銀黨) if Chen would be taking part.
Hsieh replied that the NPA had not received any notification from the National Security Bureau for a special assignment to guard the president at the rally.

The US approved the possible sale to Taiwan of fighter jet spare and repair parts for US$330 million, the Pentagon said late yesterday, marking the first such potential transaction since US President Donald Trump took office in January. "The proposed sale will improve the recipient's capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining the operational readiness of the recipient's fleet of F-16, C-130," and other aircraft, the Pentagon said in a statement. Trump previously said that Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) has told him he would not invade Taiwan while the Republican leader is in office. The announcement of the possible arms
The Tainan District Court has found a teenager guilty of posting a sexually explicit video of his girlfriend on social media without consent. The court ruled his parents were legally responsible for the boy’s actions, and ordered NT$500,000 (US$16,051) to be paid in compensation to the victim. The incident took place in December last year, when the boy and his girlfriend, both under 18 and legally minors at the time of the incident, were in a relationship. The boy asked her to send him explicit videos, according to a court filing. A month later, he posted the video on social media, with its visibility
