Official references to China in documents issued by the Mainland Affairs Council will continue in accordance with previous practice, council Vice Chairman Chiu Tai-san (
Chiu said there were three dimensions to the directive and that documents exchanged between the council and China fell under a category that would not be changed.
"The first [category] is doc-uments circulated among the councils and ministries of the Executive Yuan. The second is documents circulated between the Executive Yuan and other agencies. The third is documents exchanged between the council and China," Chiu said.
On Friday, Yu called for the Executive Yuan to refer to China as "China" in official documents. The media reported that the council could be renamed the Chinese Affairs Council. Most official documents issued by the council refer to China as "the Mainland Area."

"Unless amendments are made, the council will continue to implement the system as is currently used. We are not considering any improvements or changes to the current system," Chiu said.
However, Chiu pointed out that Yu had appointed a legal committee to look into possible changes and that the council's internal documents could be changed after such amendments.
