Four Sukhoi-26 fighter jets from Russia are expected to steal the show during the four-day Sports Air Show to be held the Taoyuan Air Base starting Saturday.
The air show, cosponsored by the Ministry of National Defense and the Taoyuan County Government, will showcase military aircraft and light planes. There will also be formation flying and stunts.

The air force will showcase AT-3, T34-C, RF-5E, F-5E and F-5F fighters, as well as the locally-made IDF fighters, French-made M-2000 and US-made F-16 fighters.
Army helicopters will fly past the air base at low altitude. The IDFs, M-2000s and F-16s will fly over the air base at an altitude of 450m.
A variety of aircraft will take part in shows three times a day. Also on display will be anti-submarine missiles and Sky Sword I and II missiles.
The ministry will also display an unmanned aircraft produced by the Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology, as well as anti-aircraft guns.
Meanwhile, EVA Airways reminded people planning to take flights from CKS International Airport between Saturday and next Tuesday to leave for the airport two hours earlier than usual to allow for the additional traffic the air show is expected to generate.
Starlux Airlines, Taiwan’s newest international carrier, has announced it would apply to join the Oneworld global airline alliance before the end of next year. In an investor conference on Monday, Starlux Airlines chief executive officer Glenn Chai (翟健華) said joining the alliance would help it access Taiwan. Chai said that if accepted, Starlux would work with other airlines in the alliance on flight schedules, passenger transits and frequent flyer programs. A new tropical storm formed late yesterday near Guam and is to approach closest to Taiwan on Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. Tropical Storm Pulasan became the 14th named storm of the year at 9:25pm yesterday, the agency said. As of 8am today, it was near Guam traveling northwest at 21kph, it said.
