Mayor Lin said that manufacturers in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park and even in Taoyuan and Miaoli need the channel to go to the mainland to make money, adding that the channel should not only be open to Taiwan people going to the mainland for religious pilgrimages or if they already have a business operating on the mainland; the policy should be eased to cover people from the industrial sector who do not have businesses in mainland China.
He noted that an airline opened a Hsinchu-Kinmen route in 1998, but canceled it later because of too few passengers.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) is to launch a new program to encourage international students to stay in Taiwan and explore job opportunities here after graduation, Deputy Minister of Education Yeh Ping-cheng (葉丙成) said on Friday. The government would provide full scholarships for international students to further their studies for two years in Taiwan, so those who want to pursue a master’s degree can consider applying for the program, he said.
