A masked man broke into a freight transport company, owned by Kaohsiung County Councilor Yeh Chin-kuo (葉進國), in Jenwu, Kaohsiung County and escaped with NT$20,000 in cash.
Yeh is an independent county councilor representing the constituency of Tashe, Kaohsiung County.
According to the police, the robbery took place around 9am yesterday morning. A speaking Taiwanese wore a respirator and a white motorcycle helmet when he broke into the office with a knife in his hand. When the crime took place, there was only one female employee in the office.
When approached by reporters, the female employee, who was only identified by her last name Su, said that she could not recognize the suspect's face. But she did divulge that the suspect spoke fluent Taiwanese and appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old.
"He yelled, `This is a robbery!' when he broke into the office," said Su.
"Then he put his knife on my neck and asked me to hand in my purse and all the money in the office. He took NT$5,000 from my purse and another NT$15,000 from the safe and took off quickly. I did not see any other fellow suspect," she said.

"He only got away with NT$20,000. He worked alone and he did not have any firearms. In addition, Councilor Yeh had not received threats from anybody recently," said Kuo.
According to him, the police's rough investigation showed that it should be a simple robbery which had nothing to do with politics and this suspect is supposed to be a local gang member. In the meantime, officers are screening all known gang members that fit the description proffered by Su.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) is to launch a new program to encourage international students to stay in Taiwan and explore job opportunities here after graduation, Deputy Minister of Education Yeh Ping-cheng (葉丙成) said on Friday. The Taipei District Court sentenced babysitters Liu Tsai-hsuan (劉彩萱) and Liu Jou-lin (劉若琳) to life and 18 years in prison respectively today for causing the death of a one-year-old boy in December 2023. The Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office said that Liu Tsai-hsuan was entrusted with the care of a one-year-old boy, nicknamed Kai Kai (剴剴), in August 2023 by the Child Welfare League Foundation.
