"We will further discuss the holding of concurrent posts by political appointees," the minister told the legislature's Organic Laws and Statutes Committee in response to a question from KMT Legislator Huang Ter-fu (

Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Yi-fu (林義夫) was ranked second with 39 posts, Department of Health acting head Twu Shiing-jer (涂醒哲) was third with 38 posts and Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics chief Lin Chuan (林全) was ranked fourth with 34 jobs.
There are no regulations governing senior executive branch officials holding concurrent posts.
The Ministry of Civil Service's draft "law of politically appointed officials" defines political appointees as those appointed by the president and premier and states that such officials cannot hold any concurrent post "that is not related to their primary position."
The draft bill was approved by the Cabinet in August and is expected to undergo its first reading in the Legislative Yuan in this legislative session.
Responding to the lawmakers' complaints, Yu said yesterday that he actually holds 46 concurrent posts, most of which were assigned him by the Cabinet or are related to his ministry's business.
"Many of those posts are to coordinate interdepartmental business,"Yu said.
Yu is a member of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), the Council of Cultural Affairs (CCA), the Cabinet's Anti-AIDS committee and National Palace Museum advisor.
Yu said some of the posts are conferred upon the Minister of the Interior, not him personally. He also said that has not been to many of these committees' meetings.
However, he admitted that he receives a NT$3,000 per month allowance from both the MAC and the CCA even though he never attended any of their meetings.
Lin Yi-fu was not available for comment yesterday as he is in Mexico for the APEC summit.
Twu said he is holding posts as both the minister and deputy minister of the health department.
Lin Chuan told reporters that he would be happy to see a decrease in the number of posts.
Cabinet Spokesman Chuang Suo-hang (
"We will review the necessity of these concurrent posts," he said.
