"The Cheng family owes her [Lu] too much," said Cheng Hung-ni (
Some of Lu's supporters also said that the lawmaker's wife even delivered newspapers to support her family after Cheng lost some elections in the past, and that it's heartless for Cheng to betray her.
Cheng and Lu have been married for 31 years.
In response to local reports that the lawmaker is having an affair with Wang, Lu has unexpectedly volunteered to act as a legislative assistant in her husband's office since Tuesday -- while the two were on a trip to China together.
Although the two returned to Taiwan two days ago, Cheng refused to see his wife and stayed in Wang's apartment. He also issued a statement Thursday afternoon, saying that he regretted the extensive media coverage of his alleged affair.
The two reportedly destroyed several security cameras in Wang's apartment block and left for southern Taiwan yesterday morning.
On July 19, Wang was arrested for destroying the apartment block's closed-circuit television security system and the building's front door.
Wang, 39, was reportedly a secret lover of former Presidential Office Secretary-General John Chang (
Shih Ming-jing (施明進), a local faction leader in Hsinchuang City, Taipei County, who is a major supporter of Cheng said, "We have done our best to persuade Cheng to end his relationship with that woman, however Cheng has only ignored our request."
"The question is not whether Cheng has failed with Wang, the question is Wang's reputation. Any man connected with her risks losing his career."

Actor Darren Wang (王大陸) is to begin his one-year alternative military service tomorrow amid ongoing legal issues, the Ministry of the Interior said yesterday. Wang, who last month was released on bail of NT$150,000 (US$4,561) as he faces charges of allegedly attempting to evade military service and forging documents, has been ordered to report to Taipei Railway Station at 9am tomorrow, the Alternative Military Service Training and Management Center said. A BETRAYAL? It is none of the ministry’s business if those entertainers love China, but ‘you cannot agree to wipe out your own country,’ the MAC minister said Taiwanese entertainers in China would have their Taiwanese citizenship revoked if they are holding Chinese citizenship, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) said. Several Taiwanese entertainers, including Patty Hou (侯佩岑) and Ouyang Nana (歐陽娜娜), earlier this month on their Weibo (微博) accounts shared a picture saying that Taiwan would be “returned” to China, with tags such as “Taiwan, Province of China” or “Adhere to the ‘one China’ principle.” The MAC would investigate whether those Taiwanese entertainers have Chinese IDs and added that it would revoke their Taiwanese citizenship if they did, Chiu told the Chinese-language Liberty Times (sister paper
