The opposition alliance said yesterday it would not rule out the possibility of voting down all nominees for the positions of Grand Justices and Control Yuan members.
The legislature is slated to vote on the confirmation of appointees for leadership positions in the Examination Yuan, Control Yuan and the Council of Grand Justices tomorrow and Friday.
Saying that there is no hurry to fill the vacancies in the latter two institutions, the KMT and the PFP said they planned to cast their votes against the two nominees for Grand Justices and the four nominees for Control Yuan members.

The two parties, which control 110 votes in the 225-seat legislature, have agreed to take a unified stand during the confirmation votes.
But, thus far, neither caucus has instructed its members which way to vote or whether to punish members who fail to toe party line.

The six-year term for the current 25 Control Yuan members will expire in January 2005. Likewise, the Council of Grand Justices will undergo a reshuffle next year.
Huang added that, by voting down certain nominees, the opposition parties mean to help the government to save on personnel costs, at a time when government is seeking to downsize itself.
Several KMT members have planned to abstain from the ballot rather than to cast a "no" vote.

Starlux Airlines on Tuesday announced it is to launch new direct flights from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Ontario, California, on June 2. The carrier said it plans to deploy the new-generation Airbus A350 on the Taipei-Ontario route.
