Ghana international winger Christian Atsu has been found alive after being buried under rubble in the earthquake that hit Turkey, the vice president of his club, Hatayspor, told reporters yesterday.
Atsu, who plays for the Super Lig’s Hatayspor, was reported missing in Turkey’s Hatay Province following the magnitude 7.8 magnitude earthquake that brought down thousands of buildings, killing about 5,000 people, in several Turkish and Syrian cities on Monday.
“Christian Atsu was pulled out injured. Our sporting director, Taner Savut, is unfortunately still under the rubble,” club vice president Mustafa Ozak told Radyo Gol.

Atsu, 31, played in the Premier League for Newcastle United and Everton, on loan from Chelsea. He joined Hatayspor, which is based in the southern city of Antakya, in September last year after a spell playing in Saudi Arabia.
He was last selected to play for Ghana in 2019, but has not officially retired from international soccer.
Ozat told BeIN Sports on Monday that several players and officials had been rescued from the rubble.
Ibrahim Kwarteng, a friend of Atsu, on Monday said they were “praying that he will be found.”
Kwarteng runs a foundation in Ghana that helps former prisoners convicted of petty crimes to be reintegrated into society after their release from jail.
Atsu was the single largest donor to the foundation, he said.
