Taiwanese wins silver
Taiwan’s Wu Chia-ying on Friday snagged a silver medal at the ISSF Grand Prix 10m in Ruse, Slovenia, after she was outscored by Hungarian Veronika Major in the women’s air pistol gold medal match. Wu, who competed at the Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro Olympics, shot a total of 13, but had to settle for silver as Major scored 17. Collecting silver in the first tournament of the season was still a good start to the year, and she now tallies three silvers and three bronzes in her career for individual and team shooting events, she said. Wu found herself on par with Major after the first five shots, but fell behind in the next five, giving the Hungarian the advantage. Wu took the next four shots, cutting the deficit to only 2 points, but failed to top her opponent on the last shot. Earlier in the day, Wu topped the rankings with a score of 251.1, while Major scored 246.2.

Napoli trounce Juventus
Two of SSC Napoli’s most influential players on Friday combined for what could be their most crucial win in this campaign as they brought Juventus’ revival to a halt. Victor Osimhen scored twice and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia once, while also setting up each other’s goals, to help Serie A leaders Napoli crush second-placed Juventus 5-1 and open up a 10-point lead. Angel di Maria halved the deficit for Juventus shortly before halftime, but Napoli ran away with it after the break with goals from Amir Rrahmani and Elif Elmas on either side of Osimhen’s second. “Congratulations to the team. Big game, big team, big respect to Juventus for the fight,” Osimhen said. “We needed this more and I’m happy about the result.”

Phillips powers NZ
Glenn Phillips on Friday smoked an unbeaten 63 runs from 42 deliveries to seize for New Zealand a thrilling two-wicket win over Pakistan in the series-deciding one-day international. Phillips counterattacked after a collapse and carried New Zealand over the line with 11 balls to spare to claim a 2-1 series victory, their first ODI series win on the subcontinent in 15 years. New Zealand reached 281-8 in reply to Pakistan’s 280-9. Phillips upstaged Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant 101. “Glenn was just playing how he plays. I don’t think he wanted to run too much; he was a bit under the weather,” New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said, referencing the lower-order slugger’s four fours and four sixes.

FTX Arena renamed
The former FTX Arena, home of the Miami Heat, has yet another name: Miami-Dade Arena. That is the temporary moniker for the building where the NBA team plays their home games while the search for a more permanent naming-rights partner commences after a bankruptcy court terminated the county’s naming rights deal with collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The process of removing FTX branding from all aspects of the arena will take some time. The company’s logo appears on the court, is on many of the entrances, is embroidered on the shirts of security and in-game personnel, is on the arena roof and even was placed on swipe cards that employees use to access the facility.
More than 180 years of horse racing came to an end in Singapore on Saturday, as the Singapore Turf Club hosted its final race day before its track is handed back to the Singaporean government to provide land for new homes. Under an overcast sky, the air-conditioned VIP boxes were full of enthusiasts, socialites and expats, while the grounds and betting halls below hosted mostly older-generation punters. The sun broke through for the last race, the last-ever Grand Singapore Gold Cup. The winner, South African jockey Muzi Yeni, echoed a feeling of loss shared by many on the day. “I’d
Former world No. 2 Paula Badosa has withdrawn from this week’s Wuhan Open, organizers said on Tuesday, amid a racism row over an online photograph. News outlets including Britain’s the Telegraph earlier reported that Badosa had posted a photo on Instagram in which she appeared to imitate a Chinese face by placing chopsticks on the corners of her eyes. The photo was taken last week in a restaurant in Beijing, where she reached the semi-finals of the
