Rank-outsider Jack Miller yesterday won a chaotic and rain-disrupted Assen TT that saw second-placed Marc Marquez consolidate his lead atop the championship standings after his rivals suffered in the wet.
Australian Miller, 21, riding a Honda Marc VDS, finished ahead of Marquez (Honda) and Briton Scott Redding (Ducati Pramac) for his maiden victory in the elite motorcycling category.
The race started in overcast conditions, but heavy rain started to fall and with 12 laps to go of the fabled Assen circuit the race was red-flagged.

At the time, Italians Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), Danilo Petrucci (Ducati Pramac) and Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) were leading.
The restart after the torrential downpour eased off saw a raft of riders, including the former podium sitters, crash out in the tricky conditions.
“I don’t know what to feel at the moment,” said Miller, who was listed at 750-1 odds before the race.
“A lot of people ... said this project wasn’t going to work and I just hope I’ve shown them wrong and that I can ride a bike,” he said.
Marquez extended his lead over Spanish compatriot Jorge Lorenzo to 24 points.
“Today was a race to lose the points,” Marquez said.
“I stayed quiet and really concentrated. I just did my race. I saw Valentino [Rossi] was pushing a lot and I said: ‘OK, I cannot follow him,’” Marquez added.
“When I saw him crash, I saw Miller was behind me and when he passed me, I just said: ‘OK,’” he added.
“This second place today is like a victory because of the very critical conditions. These 20 points will be really important in the championship race,” Marquez said.
Earlier Moto2 and Moto3 races also heralded in maiden victories for Japan’s Takaaki Nakagami and Italian Francesco Bagnaia respectively.
Kalex rider Nakagami, 24, who made his world championship debut back in 2007, finished ahead of French rider Johann Zarco and Italian Franco Morbidelli.
Zarco is tied with Spaniard Alex Rins, who finished sixth in Assen, in the overall standings on 126 points, five ahead of Britain’s Sam Lowes, who came in fourth.
In the Moto3 race, Bagnaia of Mahindra stormed to victory as Italians took the top five places.
Bagnaia, 19, came home ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio of Honda and Andrea Migno of KTM.
“I was quick all weekend, but I never dreamed a victory here was possible,” Bagnaia said after the race.
BOUNCE BACK: Curry scored 46 points in the Warriors’ victory over the Spurs, after ‘everybody stepped up’ following Tuesday’s blowout loss to Oklahoma City Nikola Jokic scoring 50 or more points had never been enough for the Denver Nuggets to win — until now. Jokic on Wednesday night tied the highest-scoring performance in the NBA this season with 55 points, as the Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 130-116 for their sixth straight victory. The Nuggets were 0-4 in his previous 50-point outbursts. “It’s a good feeling,” the three-time NBA Most Valuable Player said. He equaled Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had 55 in a double-overtime game at the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 23. Jokic has been on a roll during Denver’s winning streak. The tri-nation Twenty20 international series featuring hosts Pakistan, as well as Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, is to be played entirely in Rawalpindi from Tuesday next week, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said yesterday, after this week’s suicide bombing in the capital, Islamabad. The change came after at least eight Sri Lankan players asked to leave over security fears following Tuesday’s bombing that killed 12 people and wounded 27. Their country’s cricket board issued a stern directive to the team to stay put or face consequences. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said the decision to stay was taken after “close consultations” with hosts Pakistan who
