Gerina Piller shot a four-under 67 to hold off a raft of South Korean challengers on Saturday, taking a two-stroke lead after 54 holes of the LPGA Tour’s Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.
Piller shot her second straight bogey-free round for a 14-under total of 199.
Five South Koreans were among the players hot on her heels, including Amy Yang and Hur Mi-jung — who shared second on 201.

Piller, a 31-year old American, is trying to win for the first time on the LPGA Tour and she is aiming to do it in front of family and friends, as she lives in Fort Worth, 42km west of the Las Colinas Country Club.
She grew up in Roswell, New Mexico.
“I felt like I gave myself opportunities,” Piller said. “Had some great shots, just could not get some putts to fall. These greens are pretty tricky and they have a lot of slope to them, so you definitely have to give them respect.”
Yang shot a six-under 65 and Hur fired a 66 to move into a tie for second at 12-under.
Jenny Shin, with a 65, and Kim Sei-young, with a 68, finished at 10-under, while Ji Eun-hee (71) was at nine-under, five shots back of Piller and tied with Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn (69).
China’s Feng Shanshan (65) and Scotland’s Catriona Matthew (68) were tied for eighth on 206.
Piller, who is winless in 123 career starts, has not made a bogey since her opening hole of the week.
Kaohsiung-born US player Candie Kung carded an even-par for a four-under total of 209, while Taiwan’s Hsu Wei-ling, who also shot even-par, was two shots back on a two-under total of 211.
Taiwan’s other competitors — Cheng Ssu-chia, Min Lee and Yani Tseng — all failed to make the cut.

Arne Slot has denied that Darwin Nunez was dropped from Liverpool’s win against West Ham because of a training-ground row with a member of his coaching staff. The Liverpool head coach on Sunday last week said that Nunez was absent from the 2-1 victory at Anfield, having felt unwell during training the day before, although the striker sat behind the substitutes throughout the game. Speculation has been rife that the Uruguay international, whom Slot criticized for his work rate against Wolves and Aston Villa in February, was left out for disciplinary reasons.
