Stephen Curry on Saturday night scored 53 points, taking over the game with a 28-point third quarter, as unbeaten Golden State defeated winless New Orleans 134-120 to ruin the Pelicans’ home opener.
Curry outscored the Pelicans by two points in the third period, giving the reigning NBA MVP a career-high for scoring in a quarter. It gave the Warriors a 105-91 lead.
Curry wound up shooting 17 of 27 from the field, including eight of 14 from three-point range, to go with nine assists and four steals.

Anthony Davis had 26 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks for the injury-depleted Pelicans, who have lost their first three games under new coach Alvin Gentry.

In Washington, Carmelo Anthony scored 37 points as New York spoiled Washington’s home opener.
Anthony hit a jumper with 1 minute, 35 seconds to play to give New York a 108-106 lead. Langston Galloway added a three-pointer with 1 minute, 3 seconds left to make it 111-106.
Anthony added two free throws with 20.4 seconds left for a 113-110 lead.
Washington failed to start a season 3-0 for the first time since 2005-2006.
Bradley Beal had 22 of his 26 points in the second half for Washington, while John Wall added 25.
GRIZZLIES 101, NETS 91
In Memphis, Tennessee, Mike Conley scored 22 points, including 10 straight in the fourth quarter, and had eight assists to lead Memphis to the win.
Conley, who was seven of 12 from the field, including four of seven from outside the arc, scored his 10 straight points to hold off the Nets, who were trying to rally from a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit.
Zach Randolph and Courtney Lee scored 15 points each for Memphis, with Randolph grabbing 13 rebounds.
Bojan Bogdanovic scored 19 points and Jarrett Jack finished with 15 for the Nets (0-3). Brook Lopez had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Memphis held their largest lead of the game at 88-72 with 7 minutes, 42 seconds left. However, Brooklyn cut the deficit to 92-84, as close as the Nets would get.
