Doug Creighton landed the Player of the Week honor in SBL this week for his outstanding offensive displays which led to a pair of big wins for his side, the three-time defending champions, Pure Youth Construction.
The former standout from the Taipei American School, who played college ball in the US, has finally reclaimed his role as a critical part of the Builders squad after missing last season to a one-year stint in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
His timely surge has more than compensated for the absence of all-star center Quincy Davis, who was out of the lineup last week and has since been put on the injured reserve list.
“It doesn’t matter whether I start or not, as long as I get to contribute to our team in the fourth quarter when it counts the most,” Creighton said earlier this week upon learning of his selection to the weekly honor.
His clutch four-for-four shooting from behind the three-point arc in the decisive fourth quarter was crucial in helping the Builders rally past the Dacin Tigers last weekend. He finished the game with a season-high 26 points on seven-for-10 shooting from behind the three-point line.
“Douglas has gained a lot of versatility on the court for us after a period of refamiliarizing himself with our offensive schemes and that has made him even more effective” Pure Youth head coach Hsu Chin-che said about his star player this week.
Creighton’s continued success will undoubtedly make the Builders even tougher to beat down the stretch.
Hsu and his squad have their work cut out for them with a tough three-game sequence this weekend, starting with tonight’s battle against a Bank of Taiwan lineup that has flashed signs of brilliance, despite some inconsistency, followed by tomorrow’s contest against Taiwan Beer and Sunday’s showdown with the second-placed Fubon Braves.
All eyes will be on newly acquired big man Garett Siler, who is to replace Davis on the Builders roster for the remainder of the season to give Davis the necessary time to recover from a herniated disc injury.
The 2.11m Siler comes with an impressive resume that includes two seasons in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns and two separate seasons in the CBA.
Last night’s results:
‧ Taiwan Beer 65, Bankers 61
‧ Braves 79, Luxgens 66
