Marc-Andre Fleury made 36 saves in his 30th NHL shutout and Chris Kunitz had two goals in a three-point game to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings 3-0 on Thursday night.
Kris Letang scored his first goal of the season and Evgeni Malkin became the fifth player in team history to register 400 assists as the Penguins used their dominant power play and a steady performance from Fleury to hand the defending champion Kings just their second regulation loss.
“Guys are blocking shots and not giving up good scoring chances,” Fleury said. “I think [at the] beginning of the season we had a little bit of a rough time, but lately it’s been good.”
Pittsburgh went two for six with the man advantage, including two first-period goals that put the Kings on their heels.
“I know there’s a big deal made about the offensive juggernaut that they are, but there’s only a couple goals difference actually five-on-five coming into the game,” Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter said.
Maybe, but it was enough for Pittsburgh to win for the seventh time in nine meetings with the Kings.
Jacob Josefson scored the lone goal in the shootout and Cory Schneider made it stand up as New Jersey ended its tiebreaker frustration with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Winnipeg.
Brad Marchand had two goals — including the winner, 1:20 into overtime — to help Boston earn its third straight road victory by beating Buffalo 3-2.
At Tampa, Steven Stamkos had two goals and an assist to help the Lightning edge Philadelphia 4-3, giving them a seventh-straight home win over the Flyers.
Scottie Upshall scored 10:56 into the third period and Roberto Luongo made 32 saves as the Panthers rallied to beat Arizona 2-1.
The Blackhawks beat the Senators 5-4 in a shootout at Ottawa, with Marian Hossa scoring a goal and an assist to reach two milestones in the city where he started his NHL career in 1997.
Patrick Sharp scored the only goal of the shootout. Jonathan Toews scored twice for Chicago (6-3-1) and Kris Versteeg added a goal. Scott Darling turned aside 28 shots for the win.
In other results: The Blues beat the Ducks 2-0, the Wild edged the Sharks 4-3 in a shootout, Nathan MacKinnon scored his first two goals of the season and Semyon Varlamov stopped 40 shots in the Avalanche’s 5-0 win over the Islanders, and the Canucks beat the Canadiens 3-2, with Daniel Sedin scoring a power-play goal 2:45 into overtime off an assist from twin brother Henrik.
SSC Napoli’s Italian Serie A title hopes suffered a late setback on Sunday when they were held to a 2-2 draw at home against Genoa, setting up a thrilling season finale with closest rivals Inter just one point behind. The hosts remain top with 78 points, holding a slim lead over Inter, who won 2-0 at Torino earlier on Sunday, with two rounds remaining. To make matters worse for Napoli, midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, struggling with an ankle injury, was forced off just minutes after the match began. Scott McTominay delivered a perfect pass into the box where Romelu Lukaku got
Harry Kane opened the scoring ahead of lifting his first career silverware as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0, with veteran Thomas Mueller playing his last home game for the club. Bayern officially won the title on May 4 when defending champions Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg, but were presented with the Bundesliga shield in front of their home fans at full-time. Dripping wet after being showered with beer by teammates, Kane said the title win was “an incredible feeling,” and hoped it would be “the first of many.” “It’s been lot of hard work, a lot of
