Newly crowned champions Juventus beat AS Roma 1-0 on Sunday with a last-minute goal and set a new points record for Serie A.
Pablo Osvaldo’s stoppage-time winner against his former club ensured Juventus moved to 99 points, beating Inter’s record.
AC Milan lost 2-1 at Atalanta BC in a match blighted by racism. Atalanta fans threw bananas at Kevin Constant. They were sarcastically applauded by Milan players Philippe Mexes and Nigel de Jong.

Antonio Conte’s team can become the first Serie A club to reach the 100-point mark when they play Cagliari in the last round at Juventus Stadium in Turin, where they have won all 17 of their Serie A matches this season.
“My players are celebrating so much because there is absolutely so much to celebrate,” Conte said.
Earlier on Sunday, Torino were held 1-1 by Parma and UEFA Europa League qualification will now be decided on the final day of the season.
Torino remain sixth, a point above Parma and two above Hellas Verona and Milan.
At the bottom, Catania beat Bologna 2-1, but both sides were relegated after AC Chievo Verona and US Sassuolo both won.
Elsewhere it was AS Livorno 0, ACF Fiorentina 1; and UC Sampdoria 2, SSC Napoli 5.
In Rome, it was a clash between the top two teams in Serie A.
Vasilis Torosidis had a goal disallowed for Roma for handball, while at the other end Paul Pogba’s angled drive crashed off the inside of the post.
It appeared both teams would earn a deserved point from the match, before Osvaldo — who had been loudly booed by the Roma fans when he came off the bench — was left unmarked to fire Stephan Lichtsteiner’s cross under the bar.
Torino appeared to be on course to securing Europa League qualification after Ciro Immobile took advantage of a poor back-pass from Gabriel Paletta to fire into an empty net at the end of the first half.
Parma captain Alessandro Lucarelli was sent off for an elbow on Immobile shortly after the hour mark, but the visitors leveled in the 71st minute when Afriyie Acquah was brought down by Kamil Glik. Antonio Cassano saw his penalty saved by Daniele Padelli, but Torino were slow to react and Jonathan Biabiany netted the rebound.
Immobile, who was booked earlier for his reaction to Lucarelli, was sent off two minutes later following a booking for diving.
In the lunchtime kickoff, Franco Brienza curled a stunning long-range effort in the sixth minute of stoppage-time to secure victory for Atalanta.
Milan broke the deadlock early in the second half when Atalanta defender Gianpaolo Bellini turned Sulley Muntari’s cross into his own net.
Atalanta leveled from the spot in the 68th minute, with German Denis sending Marco Amelia the wrong way.
The only positive for Milan was the halftime introduction of forward Stephan El Shaarawy for his first appearance of the year.
Bologna and Catania will join bottom club Livorno in Serie B next season.
Both teams are on 29 points, four behind Chievo, who snapped a losing streak to win 1-0 at Cagliari. Sassuolo are a point further ahead following a 4-2 win over Genoa.
RECORD DEFEAT: The Shanghai-based ‘Oriental Sports Daily’ said the drubbing was so disastrous, and taste so bitter, that all that is left is ‘numbness’ Chinese soccer fans and media rounded on the national team yesterday after they experienced fresh humiliation in a 7-0 thrashing to rivals Japan in their opening Group C match in the third phase of Asian qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The humiliation in Saitama on Thursday against Asia’s top-ranked team was China’s worst defeat in World Cup qualifying and only a goal short of their record 8-0 loss to Brazil in 2012. Chinese President Xi Jinping once said he wanted China to host and even win the World Cup one day, but that ambition looked further away than ever after a
‘KHELIFMANIA’: In the weeks since the Algerian boxer won gold in Paris, national enthusiasm is inspiring newfound interest in the sport, particularly among women In the weeks since Algeria’s Imane Khelif won an Olympic gold medal in women’s boxing, athletes and coaches in the North African nation say national enthusiasm is inspiring newfound interest in the sport, particularly among women. Khelif’s image is practically everywhere, featured in advertisements at airports, on highway billboards and in boxing gyms. The 25-year-old welterweight’s success in Paris has vaulted her to national hero status, especially after Algerians rallied behind her in the face of uninformed speculation about her gender and eligibility to compete. Amateur boxer Zougar Amina, a medical student who has been practicing for a year, called Khelif an
Crowds descended on the home of 17-year-old Chinese diver Quan Hongchan after she won two golds at the Paris Olympics while gymnast Zhang Boheng hid in a Beijing airport toilet to escape overzealous throngs of fans. They are just two recent examples of what state media are calling “toxic fandom” and Chinese authorities have vowed to crack down on it. Some of the adulation toward China’s sports stars has been more sinister — fans obsessing over athletes’ personal lives, cyberbullying opponents or slamming supposedly crooked judges. Experts say it mirrors the kind of behavior once reserved for entertainment celebrities before

For one night only, the land of Pele and ‘The Beautiful Game’ will get a rare glimpse into the bone-crunching world of American football as the Packers and Eagles collide at Sao Paulo’s Neo Quimica Arena, the 46,000-seat home of soccer club Corinthians. The regular season fixture is part of the NFL’s increasingly ambitious plans to spread the US’ most popular sport to new territories following previous international fixtures
