Slovakian goalkeeper Jaroslav Halak set a team record with his 17th shutout as the St Louis Blues trounced the Florida Panthers 7-0 in the NHL on Saturday.
Halak made 19 saves and passed Glen Hall, who had 16 shutouts for the Blues from 1967 to 1971. Halak posted his 26th career shutout and improved to 8-1 against the Panthers.
St Louis got goals from seven different players, including newcomers Brenden Morrow and Derek Roy, who scored their first goals of the season. The Blues have outscored their opponents 11-2, with 10 different players scoring goals this season.
In other games, the Boston Bruins defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-1, the Pittsburgh Penguins eased by the Buffalo Sabres 4-1, the Tampa Bay Lightning rallied for a 3-2 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks and the Anaheim Ducks got a 4-3 overtime win over the Minnesota Wild.
Brad Marchand scored the tiebreaking goal 36 seconds into the second period and Tuukka Rask made 25 saves to lift Boston.
Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara each scored power-play goals and Jordan Caron added an even-strength score for the Bruins.
The Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and Chuck Kobasew scored their second goals of the season and Marc-Andre Fleury was nearly perfect again, making 20 saves to lead Pittsburgh.
Craig Adams also scored his second goal and Chris Kunitz converted a penalty shot to help the Penguins open 2-0 for the third straight season.
Fleury has turned aside 47 of 48 shots in two games. He earned his 250th career victory and 24th shutout with a 3-0 win on Thursday against New Jersey.
Tampa Bay’s Valtteri Filppula scored in the shootout for the Lightning, who looked listless before Martin St Louis and Teddy Purcell scored midway through the third period, tying it at 2.
Ben Bishop made 37 saves in his first start this season for Tampa Bay, then denied each of Chicago’s three shooters in the tiebreaker. Anaheim’s Mathieu Perreault scored at 4 minutes, 55 seconds of overtime on a 2-on-1 break with Francois Beauchemin to give the Ducks their first win of the season.
Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller had 30 saves.
Elsewhere, Montreal’s Lars Eller scored his third goal in two games and Brendan Gallagher got his second to help the Montreal Canadiens beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1.
Vancouver’s Dan Hamhuis and Jannik Hansen scored 18 seconds apart late in the first period as the Canucks cruised by the Edmonton Oilers 6-2.
Toronto’s Mason Raymond and Tyler Bozak scored shootout goals to lift the Maple Leafs past the Ottawa Senators 5-4 in their home opener.
The Columbus Blue Jackets rallied from two goals down in the third period to spoil the New York Islanders’ home opener, winning 3-2 in a shootout. Dallas’ Alex Chiasson scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period as the Stars defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1.
And the San Jose Sharks dominated the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1, getting two goals from Tomas Hertl.
