The US advanced to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 3-1 win over Honduras on Wednesday, with Landon Donovan scoring two goals and setting up another.
Sunday’s final will pit the US against Panama, who beat Mexico 2-1 to prevent the expected US-Mexico final.
The US struck first when Donovan found Eddie Johnson running through the middle. He dribbled the ball, then powered a shot past goalkeeper Donis Escober to put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute.

In the 27th minute, Donovan controlled a short chip off his chest and poked a shot past the ’keeper.
Nery Medina headed in a cross to pull a goal back for Honduras in the 52nd minute, but Donovan restored the two-goal lead a minute later.
In the later game, Roman Torres’ glancing header from a Gabriel Torres corner proved the winner as Panama upset Mexico.

Panama resisted prolonged Mexico pressure, which yielded four good scoring opportunities over the next 30 minutes, but no goals.
Blas Perez struck first, giving Panama a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when he blasted a shot to the near post.
In the 26th minute, Mexico’s Marco Fabian got around a defender deep in the box and then lofted a cross to the far post where Luis Montes’ diving header sent the ball into the far upper corner for the equalizer.
US coach Jurgen Klinsmann said Donvan’s match-winning performance was “wonderful to watch” as the veteran plays himself back to the center of US team calculations after an international hiatus.
However, Klinsmann may not be on the sidelines for the final after he was ejected in the 87th minute for slamming a ball into the ground.
A CONCACAF official said the referee would file a report with CONCACAF’s disciplinary committee, which will announce a decision in the next day or two.
“It was a reaction out of frustration,” he said. “It was not meant against the referee, against anybody. It was just frustration. I apologize for that.”
Mexico were seeking a fourth straight Gold Cup final against the US and a third straight Central America title, but lost to Panama for just the second time in 15 games.
SSC Napoli’s Italian Serie A title hopes suffered a late setback on Sunday when they were held to a 2-2 draw at home against Genoa, setting up a thrilling season finale with closest rivals Inter just one point behind. The hosts remain top with 78 points, holding a slim lead over Inter, who won 2-0 at Torino earlier on Sunday, with two rounds remaining. To make matters worse for Napoli, midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, struggling with an ankle injury, was forced off just minutes after the match began. Scott McTominay delivered a perfect pass into the box where Romelu Lukaku got
Harry Kane opened the scoring ahead of lifting his first career silverware as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0, with veteran Thomas Mueller playing his last home game for the club. Bayern officially won the title on May 4 when defending champions Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg, but were presented with the Bundesliga shield in front of their home fans at full-time. Dripping wet after being showered with beer by teammates, Kane said the title win was “an incredible feeling,” and hoped it would be “the first of many.” “It’s been lot of hard work, a lot of

Yamal’s effort and Fermin Lopez’s goal took Hansi Flick’s side seven points clear of Los Blancos with two matches remaining, to clinch Barcelona’s 28th title and complete a superb domestic treble. Only the UEFA Champions League title escaped an exciting young Barca side this season, as they won the league for the second time in six years, at Espanyol’s ground again just as in 2022-2023. Jannik Sinner on Thursday marched into the semi-finals of the Italian Open after destroying Casper Ruud in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, while Coco Gauff won a marathon three-set battle with China’s Zheng Qinwen to advance to the women’s singles final. American Gauff is to face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in today’s title match after pulling through 7-6 (7/3), 4-6, 7-6 (7/4) in a match that lasted over three-and-a-half hours. Ruud was supposed to be Sinner’s toughest test in Rome since he came back from his three-month doping ban, as the Norwegian came into the match in hot form on clay after winning in
