Golfers find bodies
Golfers at a Florida course heard gunshots on Tuesday, and when they investigated, found the bodies of two female victims. Leon County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lieutenant James McQuaig said the golfers spotted the bodies near Hilaman Golf Course in Tallahassee. The golfers heard two shots at about 5pm, he said. “They made the discovery,” McQuaig said. “They called 911 and they waited for us to get there.” The bodies were found in a grassy area between the golf course and an adjacent apartment complex, he said. The names of the victims had not been released on Tuesday night, and McQuaig did not have their ages. He said the golfers did not see anyone fleeing after the shots rang out. Autopsies on the victims were scheduled for yesterday, he said. The golf course is mostly lined with apartment complexes in Florida’s capital city.

Sports scientist sues Sharks
Australian sports scientist Stephen Dank is suing the Cronulla Sharks for defamation over claims that he “injected players with horse drugs,” reports said yesterday. Dank’s lawyers filed a claim against the National Rugby League club in the New South Wales Supreme Court, Sydney’s Daily Telegraph and other media said. It alleges that ex-club chairman Damien Irvine made defamatory comments about Dank “to the effect that he injected Sharks players with horse drugs.” The court confirmed the documents were lodged on Tuesday, but said they would not be made public until the defense was filed, a process which could take a month or more. Dank’s solicitor Raed Rahal said in a statement that he would be alleging that the Sharks club was “legally responsible” for Irvine’s words, the Telegraph said. Irvine stepped down after making the comments, saying Cronulla had been under intense pressure since being mentioned in a wide-ranging Australian Crime Commission report into doping in sport.

Stadium roof has problems
Brazilian authorities have closed the main stadium for the 2016 Rio Olympics because of roof problems, the city’s mayor said. The Joao Havelange Stadium — due to host athletics competitions during the Games — will be “closed indefinitely” until the matter is resolved, Eduardo Paes told reporters on Tuesday. After being informed of the problems, Paes said he asked if they represented a risk for fans. “The answer was yes,” Paes said in remarks quoted by the O Globo newspaper. “We cannot play around with an issue like this.” The stadium will not be used for soccer’s Confederations Cup in June or the 2014 World Cup. The stadium has the capacity to hold 47,000 people, with authorities planning to increase that number for the Olympics.

The news was delivered in a meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, that ended at about 2am, Clippers basketball operations president Lawrence Frank said. Frank said he made the decision to sever ties with Paul on Sunday then told the franchise’s career assist leader that he needed to see him on Tuesday in Atlanta. Frank did not confirm
Kylian Mbappe on Wednesday scored twice and had an assist as Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 to end a three-match winless streak in La Liga. Eduardo Camavinga also found the net for Madrid as they moved back within one point of Barcelona, who beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 on Tuesday. Both 19th-round matches were moved forward because Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club and Atletico Madrid are to play in the Supercopa de Espana semi-finals in Saudi Arabia next month. Real Madrid were coming off league draws against Girona, Elche and Rayo Vallecano. It was their second win in their past six matches in
SEESAW CONTEST: The Pistons remain top of the Eastern Conference after battling to a win over the Hawks in a game that saw the lead change 27 times The Phoenix Suns on Monday shrugged off an injury to Devin Booker to end the Los Angeles Lakers’ seven-game winning streak with an emphatic 125-108 victory on the road. Booker exited in the first quarter, but the loss of the star point guard did little to halt the flow of Phoenix points over the remainder of the game. Dillon Brooks led the Phoenix scoring with 33 points, while Collin Gillespie added 28 — including eight three-pointers — as the Suns romped to victory. The Lakers were left ruing a colossal 22 turnovers — at a cost of 32 Suns points — on a
