Chicago extended their NHL-record season-opening points streak to 22 games with a 2-1 win at the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday, as Patrick Kane scored the tying goal with 2 minutes, 2 seconds left in regulation and then the only goal in a shootout.
The Blackhawks have earned at least a point in 28 straight games — dating back to last season — to tie the second-longest such streak in league history. They have matched Montreal’s streak from 1977-1978 and trail only Philadelphia’s run of 35 straight games in 1979-1980.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Montreal had a comeback win at Boston in a clash of the Eastern Conference’s leading teams, Dallas won at home against St Louis, the New York Islanders edged Ottawa in a shootout and Calgary downed Vancouver.

Chicago’s streak looked like it might end when Detroit’s Tomas Tatar broke a scoreless tie early in the third period and Jimmy Howard stopped every puck that came his way.
However, the Red Wings were called for delay of game for putting the puck out of play twice toward the end of regulation.
Chicago took advantage of the first of two late power plays with forward Viktor Stalberg pushing the puck to Kane to set up a one-timer that made it 1-1.
Montreal’s David Desharnais scored the winner with his second goal of the game less than four minutes after Max Pacioretty had tied it earlier in the third period, lifting the Canadiens to a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins.
Tomas Plekanec also scored for the Canadiens, who jumped two points ahead of Boston for first overall in the conference.
Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron and Dougie Hamilton scored for Boston.
Dallas’ Derek Roy had a goal and two assists, while Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves to help lead the Stars to a 4-1 win over the St Louis Blues.
Loui Eriksson, Jaromir Jagr and Erik Cole also scored for Dallas.
For Cole, it was his first goal with Dallas in his second game with the team since he was acquired in a trade with Montreal last week.
David Perron scored for St Louis.
New York’s John Tavares and Frans Nielsen scored in the shootout, lifting the Islanders to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.
Brad Boyes scored the first-period opener for the Islanders and Michael Grabner restored New York’s lead in the third after Patrick Wiercioch had equalized for the Senators.
Calgary’s Jarome Iginla scored the winning goal in the third period to lead the Flames to a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Iginla has five goals in the past four games after scoring just once in his first 16 games of the season.
Mike Cammalleri added a pair of goals for the Flames, while Lee Stempniak finished with a goal and an assist.
Jannik Hansen had a goal and an assist for the Canucks and Chris Higgins also scored.
Minnesota’s Mikko Koivu made up for a frustrating stretch without a goal by scoring nine seconds into the third period to snap a tie and spark the Wild’s 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
New York’s Rick Nash had a goal and assist and also scored in the shootout to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Carolina’s Jordan Staal, Alexander Semin and Justin Faulk scored in the Hurricanes 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers.
Columbus’ Artem Anisimov scored on a hard wrist-shot on an overtime power play and Sergei Bobrovsky made 18 saves to lead the Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
