St Louis’ team-record point streak was ended at 21 home games as the Boston Bruins beat the Blues 4-2 in the NHL on Wednesday.
The streak looked like it would continue when Chris Stewart and Ryan Reaves scored for the Blues on the first five shots of the game to quickly level the game at 2-2 following the Bruins’ hot start, but Boston goalie Tim Thomas stopped the next 27 shots.
Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic scored in the first period to put Boston ahead 2-0 early before being pegged back, but there was still time in the first period for Chris Kelly to restore the visitors’ lead.
Marchand added a second in the third period to complete the scoring for the Bruins..
St Louis lost at home in regulation for the first time since Dec. 3, and also lost in regulation to an Eastern Conference team for the first time in 15 games.

In Ottawa, Erik Karlsson and Milan Michalek each had three points in Ottawa’s win over Washington.
Karlsson finished with a goal and two assists to set a new franchise record for assists by a defenseman in a season with 47. He now has seven points in his past two games. His 60 points this season give him a 20-point advantage over Florida’s Brian Campbell for the NHL lead in scoring by a defenseman.
Michalek added two goals and an assist, while Chris Phillips also scored for Ottawa and Nick Foligno had an empty netter.
John Carlson and Mathieu Perreault scored for the Capitals, who have lost three straight.
Alex Ovechkin missed the game with a lower body injury and is listed as day-to-day.

In Denver, Colorado, Colorado completed their first season sweep of Los Angeles in nearly two decades. Paul Stastny scored twice, Semyon Varlamov stopped 32 shots, and Mark Olver and Jay McClement also added goals for the Avalanche, who have won three straight at home and moved to within two points of the Kings for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
