India produced a much-improved bowling performance as they removed both England openers on the second day of the fourth and final Test at The Oval in London yesterday.
England captain Andrew Strauss could only add two runs in an hour after fellow left-hander Alastair Cook had fallen for his overnight 34.
However, Ian Bell played several stylish shots to be 29 not out at lunch, with Kevin Pietersen unbeaten on 18.

England still had every chance of completing a 4-0 series clean sweep after replacing India at the top of the ICC’s Test rankings with a mammoth innings-and-242-run victory at Edgbaston last week.
However, they did not have things all their own way in yesterday’s first session.
They resumed on 75 without loss following an opening day where rain meant there was no play after lunch.
And England lost their first wicket without addition to their score when Ishant Sharma struck with yesterday’s fifth ball.
Sharma drew Cook forward with a good length delivery the batsman edged to Virender Sehwag at first-slip.
Cook, who made a career-best 294 at Edgbaston, was out for 34.
India, after a mediocre display on Thursday, were bowling with far greater purpose and it was not until the last ball of yesterday’s fourth over when Strauss added a run to England’s total.
Bell then struck the first boundary when he elegantly late-cut left-arm quick Rudra Pratap Singh, the injured Praveen Kumar’s replacement, for four.
He then struck a glorious cover-drive off seamer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth that sped to the boundary.
Strauss found runs harder to come by and, chasing a wide half-volley from Sreesanth, he was caught behind by India captain and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 40.
England were now 97 for two.
Pietersen took four off Sreesanth to bring up England’s 100 and then greeted Amit Mishra’s first ball of the innings, a short and wide delivery outside off-stump, by thrashing the leg-spinner to the cover boundary.
However, off the last ball before lunch he glanced Sharma toward leg-slip and the umpires, unable to decide if the ball had carried, called for a review.
However, with replays inconclusive, Pietersen remained not out.
Inter on Sunday were given a letoff when they snatched a late 1-1 derby draw with AC Milan, while league leaders SSC Napoli were held by a late goal at AS Roma. Reigning champions Inter remain three points behind Napoli, who looked to be heading five clear as they led in Rome until Angelino volleyed in a stunning leveler in the first minute of stoppage-time. Angelino’s strike gave even more significance to Stefan de Vrij’s last-gasp equalizer at the San Siro. The defender forced home Nicola Zalewski’s knockdown just as it looked like Tijjani Reijnders’ opener would be enough for Milan. “I can
The Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets on Saturday did not disappoint in a thrilling midseason matchup in front of a fired-up sellout crowd of more than 18,500 fans. The top two teams in the NHL delivered with a combined nine goals, including the 877th of Alex Ovechkin’s career to put him 18 back of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record. That tied the score, the Jets pulled it out in overtime and just about everyone involved got their money’s worth out of the 5-4 game. “We knew how we were both sitting in the standings and both having real good years,” Winnipeg coach Scott
Santiago Castro on Tuesday had an immediate impact off the bench as he scored the goal to send Bologna into the Coppa Italia semi-finals for the first time in 26 years. Bologna won 1-0 against last year’s runners-up, Atalanta BC, and are to play either holders Juventus or Empoli in the final four. Juventus are to host Empoli in their quarter-final on Feb. 26. The last time Bologna reached the semi-finals was in 1999, when they lost 4-2 to ACF Fiorentina. There were chances for both sides in a high-tempo match in Bergamo, but it was Bologna who broke the deadlock 10 minutes from
